Zimmerman isn’t the racist in Trayvon’s case.

We’ve all heard about the murder of seventeen year old Trayvon Martin by now.  He is the young man that was shot dead by a neighborhood watch guard.

The details of what happened are still too sketchy.  Just about the only thing that ISN’T sketchy is the racial overtones devouring this case.  You see, the surname of the shooter is Zimmerman and the victim is Black.  One thing the mainstream,  liberal media loves to do is to sensationalize White on minority crimes.

What we are now finding out about Zimmerman is that he is Hispanic; not White, and is from a multi-racial family.  We are also finding out that the initial reports of him using racial slurs were incorrect. Although the racial overtones are glaring, and he has been labeled a racist, there is no evidence thus far to support the claim of racism.

Don’t get me wrong here; I’m not defending Zimmerman. Based on reports, he continued to follow Trayvon when he had been explicitly told not to. I feel but for that decision, Trayvon would not be dead today.  And also based on reports, I’m of the opinion that the local police investigated the case poorly. Subsequent to the local police ruling the case self-defense, it appears that  important details emerged that contradicts their determination.

I am prepared to allow the special prosecutor and FBI to cross all T’s and dot all I’s in this case. I want to see justice done just as much as anyone else. But because I’m a Conservative and refuse to be propelled by emotions like the vast majority of Blacks, I’ve been accused of being non-caring, not doing enough and standing with Whites (even though Zimmerman is Hispanic) and selling out the Black Community.

It is incredibly unfortunate when ANYONE is murdered. I’m saddened by the death of this young man, and I can not even begin to imagine what his parents must be feeling or their suffering.  In 2010, 2,720 parents felt that unimaginable grief. That’s how many Blacks were murdered.

I still do not understand where the national media attention was for the murders of all those men, women and children;  or Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and the mob of angry, protesting Blacks! They mattered as much as Trayvon, right?

Other than abortion (roughly 15 million Black babies murdered, yes murdered, since Roe v. Wade), loss of life doesn’t get more innocent than that of a child’s caught by the stray bullet of a gang banger or drug dealer as they play in their yards or sit in their home watching TV.

Of those 2,720 Blacks  murdered in 2010, 2,459 of them were murdered by Blacks.  The Black on Black  scenario is not exciting enough for the liberal media; nor is there a racial angle for the likes of Sharpton to exploit. In addition, the murderers of many of the victims go unpunished.  Unlike the angry mobs that mobilize when a non-Black person kills a Black person, those who know anything about inner city murders are suddenly rendered mute. Hey, who likes a SNITCH? Only snitch if the killer is NOT Black!

Zimmerman may be a racist. It’s just that I have not seen evidence of it thus far. But, the media and the many Black folk ready to hang him without a trial sure seem to be preening some racial feathers.

Have you heard about the thirteen year old Kansas City White teen that was doused with gasoline and set on fire by several Black teens, as they yelled racial epithets?  Probably not many of you have.  It’s not sensational enough for liberal media.

Liberalism must continue racial divide to survive.  Trayvon is sadly being used as a mere tool by the liberal game players, and just as sad and equally disgusting,  his parent’s, and that giant, angry mob of Black folk are definitely being played.

  3. We as a nation are not at the crossroads. We are hanging in the balance and have been found wanting. What is DESPERATELY needed is repentance, starting with Spiritual Authority. Couple that with Divine Power, THEN and ONLY THEN will we begin to see the "change" we voted for backing 2008.

Now if the BLACK PASTORS would wake up and see the mess that they created through their spiritual apathy...

  4. ummm.... black pastors waking up... .well, first we need to expose those who are heathens standing behind the pulpits and shame them out of existence. There is a LOT we need to do to wake people up... sigh.... what a colossal task it is to be the wakers of the sleepers....

  5. It is a shame when any young life is taken for no reason, other than ignorance. But I do agree that if this were a black on black crime, there would be no media attention. There is an article on the American Thinker website by a gentleman by the name of E. W. Jackson that talks about black on black crime and why our so called black leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson did not get involved when a young black man was killed by other blacks.

  6. This is about a police department - with a history of racism and abuse in that town - who are not doing their job. And you talk about the media not paying attention when whites get killed? Well then tell me who gets more headlines: the young white chick who gets kidnapped/murdered or the young black chick? When a white girl gets kidnapped, everybody in the country gets involved and her face is on the cover of every magazine. When its a black or latino girl, she gets maybe a minute of airtime before they cut to sports. So stop acting like the media only gives a damn about blacks.

  7. Okay, you said "Of those 2,720 Blacks murdered in 2010, 2,459 of them were murdered by Blacks." Just out of curiosity, how many of those 2,720 Blacks murdered had a killer who the police knew the identity of and NEVER MADE AN ARREST or even issued an arrest warrent for. That's what is different about this case. According to the police dept, there isn't even enough to make an arrest when Travon was killed based on the shooter's words alone. If that happened in those 2010 cases you cited, I'd appreciate links to them.

  8. a contract has been put out by the black panthers as a $1000000 bounty on Zimmerman. this is conspiracy to kidnap if not murder. kidnapping is a federal crime. murder is state. federal racketeering laws must come into play here as well... the us attorney general is committing a hate crime by not enforcing the laws without racial bias.

  9. Anonymous 1- You are correct that the media pays attention to missing, pretty white women... but, that's the liberal media for you. They focus on blacks or minorities killed by Whites because it's sensational and stirs emotions. And they focus on missing White women Im guessing because that's who the predominately White (librals) owned media outlets identify with .

  10. Anonymous 2-- You can do your own research for those stats. Im more concerned that the investigation continues in this case so justice can be served.

  11. Anonymous 3- I agree... why are the black panthers being allowed to openly discuss how they are prepared to break the law.

  12. Interesting post. I think black conservatives often make valid points, but too often one must get past a great deal of intellectual dishonesty to arrive at those points. For instance, you are absolutely right that the Trayvon Martin case has turned into a media circus. And you are also absolutely right that black on black violence is a huge problem. But you are right for the wrong reasons.

First of all, Hispanic is an ethnic group, not a race. This is why on the census form and other documents that request demographic data there are boxes for “non-Hispanic black” and “non-Hispanic white.” Latin America is just like English-speaking America in that it was settled by three primary groups—Indians, European colonists (mostly from Spain), and West African slaves. There are plenty of Hispanics in this country who are descended mostly from Spaniards. Last I checked Spaniards were white. Most of the first Cubans to arrive in Miami after Castro came to power were of European descent, which is why many Hispanics in Florida self-identify as white. I don’t know why Zimmerman stopped Martin. But I do know that just because Zimmerman is Hispanic it doesn’t mean that he is not white. I would advise you to do a little research on Latin America. Also, it's important to remember that ALL groups, including black folks, harbor negative views of black people, particularly young black men.

Your point about black on black crime is also misleading. The national news media often does not cover black crime, but the local media in most major cities certainly does. Most black folks in cities like Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, St. Louis, D.C., Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, New York, Oakland, and so on will tell you that the nightly news in their areas almost always carries stories about black on black violence. What both local and major markets often overlook or underreport is the community backlash against that violence. There are often protests and vigils in most of the aforementioned cities over black on black crime. These protests, or for that matter the weekly sermons about family values and good behavior heard in black churches throughout the nation, do not become major news stories, of course, because the media—liberal and conservative—is only interested in perpetuating the myth of black pathology.

Your characterization of black on black violence also traffics in stereotypes, which suggests that you are not all that familiar with what actually happens in black communities. Most black on black violence happens between people who know each other and statistics show that most black on black homicides are not related to other felonies (i.e. drug dealing and gang-banging). It turns out that most of the black on black homicides stem from personal disputes. In any case it seems to me that the violence has three major causes: economics, easy access to guns, and a culture of violence that permeates all of America, but has more serious consequences in black communities.

That said, you are right, everyone is being played in this situation and the media is being extremely irresponsible. Liberals do tend to fan the flames of black racial indignation, just as conservatives often play to white bigotry and xenophobia. Both aim to keep their constituents blind toward the economic and spiritual exploitation perpetuated by people at the top. This is a point that many independent black minds (Harold Cruse, Albert Murray, Ralph Ellison) made decades ago. Their arguments, however, were more subtle than those expressed by black so-called conservatives (Thomas Sowell, John McWhorter, George Schuyler). People like you have valid points. If you and other black conservatives want to get people to agree with you and take you seriously, then you need to show a greater willingness to look at the whole picture, not just a few conveniently chosen facts and stereotypes.

  13. Why do you suppose that "ALL groups, including black folks, harbor negative views of black people, particularly young black men"? hmmm I think i have an idea. What are your HONEST thoughts on that, Justin?

  14. Because young black males have been the scapegoats for society's ills since this country's inception. Throughout the 20th century--and much of the 19th--the image of "the bad negro" was perpetuated through mass media. This tradition continues today. One does not need a degree in American history to know any of this. All you need to do is watch Birth of a Nation, the world's first blockbuster film, or read up on, say, Emmett Till. But I suspect, based on the tone of your comment, that you, like most Americans, have no appetite for history, particularly when it reflects the truth. Perhaps, "Anonymous," you'd be more comfortable with the social science fiction of D.P. Moynihan or Charles Murray.

  15. Just a thought... I am not from America but I had the opportunity to follow the case of Zimmerman and the deceased Martin. My concern is not whether it was racially provoked or an actual act of self protection but more so, how the hell, people who support laws and justice specifically enacted to protect animals, have a problem with a man being arrested and charged after shooting a human being. These are probably the same people who cheered when Michael Vick was convicted and sentenced for cruelty to animals. Or perhaps they are the ones outraged by the shooting of a mountain lion... Are you serious? The value of human life should be held in so much more regard. Or maybe all animals are considered superior to minority races.
